100 GAMES FOR D-MAC!

13 Aug 2016 by Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club

Daniel’s association with the Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club started at a young age. From 2005-2008 “D-Mac” as he is known as to everyone at the club, took stats for the Seniors as a means of earning pocket money on weekends where he got to know many of the players he would later become teammates with.

He arrived to the Old Boys in a playing capacity, as a Schoolboy, in 2009 playing a few games to round out the season. He burst onto the scene in the Premier U/19’s Division slotting 9 goals in just his 4th game against Old Trinity. The signs were ominous for the young key forward as there was never any doubt where D-Mac would play his footy after leaving school.

In 2010, D-Mac kicked regular bags of 5 & 6 under then U/19’s Coach Brian Millet and received an early yet well deserved call up to the Senior side. He impressed coaches with his commitment to training, work rate and determination on the field as well as a keen goal sense. D-Mac didn’t look back and in that year was awarded the famous Rising Eagle Award.

In 2011, D-Mac was to watch his mates play in the U/19’s Premiership as he was by then a permanent fixture in the senior side and had a commitment to playing at the highest level he could. He continued to improve in all facets of his game and become a role model for players his age and younger. At an early age under then Senior Coach Steve McPherson he was added temporarily as Deputy Vice Captain of the club. Again, in 2016 D-Mac was rewarded with a spot in the leadership group and has shown exceptional leadership throughout this struggling season. He is now seen as a swing man when from time to time he ventures down in defence to hold out a bigger body.

As important as D-Mac’s commitment to his teammates on field, is his commitment to helping his club off field. He’s always first to volunteer his time and efforts to help raise money and get others involved. Despite often being an easy target for gags and practical jokes, D-Mac is a much loved figure at the club and has often endeavoured to add humour to Thursday nights without avail.

He is a courageous teammate, loyal clubman and all round good person and certainly makes his family and friends proud when he notches up game 100 this weekend.

Go well Macca!
