#BROCK100

1 Jul 2016 by Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club

Liam Brockhus began his career at Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club as a member of the 2010 U/19’s team under the guidance of Brian Millett. Before I get started, fun little fact and many of you probably don’t know this but Liam isn’t an old boy of the College. Completing his studies (VCE, now otherwise as ATAR), at Aquinas College, Ringwood.

Before joining ‘The Nest’ or as he likes to personally call it ‘The Aerie’ (the correct term for an eagles nest), he was quite the club bicycle, going from one team to another. After a year of persuading him to come down from Aquinas, a division three team in the VAFA, he finally came to the ‘The Aerie’ and since then has settled in quite nicely to the club.

During this time it hasn’t take long for players, coaches and fans of the club to realise, that the new recruit they had landed back in the summer back in 09/10 is something special. And when I say special I am not talking in terms of ability, but of the character and that of person who he is.

He will be the first to admit that he is not the most overly gifted footballer, but every summer he is one of the most committed players to making each preseason session and is always training to improve himself and his skills.

Over his career, he has won coaches awards, he’s been a thirds tagger (the only one in VAFA history), vice and co-captain of the thirds, played in grand finals (unfortunately couldn’t get the chocolates), used a brief case as his kit bag, tunnelled blokes and so much more, but it probably isn’t suitable for this.

For those who have been on the receiving end or had have been lucky enough to witness one of the more unorthodox kicking actions in the game, will enjoy that throughout his time at Marcellin, every senior coach in their reign has tried to improve his action and banish the curse that plagues the man’s action and alas to no avail.

Since U/19’s I haven’t had the privilege to play as much football with my best mate as I would have liked, but having the opportunity to play with him in the reserves for most of the year under the infamous Stuart Kemp in 2014 and for a couple of game this year, has been an absolute pleasure.

Congratulations mate, on notching up the ton (it’s actually his 99th, but nobody wants to celebrate their 100th down on the Peninsula). Wishing you all the very best for Saturday.

Also please note Liam, has requested that the hashtag #brock100 be used on all social media posts, regardless if relevant to the MOCFC or not.

Love always,

Blacky
