WEEKEND RESULTS

Round 15 saw all 4 teams at The Nest as we celebrated our annual Past Players & Officials Lunch. Over 150 people were in attendance celebrating 5 premiership reunions and the elevation of Ray Walsh from Life Member to Legend of the Marcellin Old Collegians Football Club.

Seniors: 16-10-106 def. Ormond: 12-8-80

Round 15 saw the Seniors improve on their performance from the previous round, keeping their Premier C hopes alive with strong 4-quarter performance against Ormond. An extensive set of goal scorers saw ten players contribute with majors, while Jeremiah Antypas did as he has done so regularly, booting 3 for the day. After a fast start by the Eagles, Ormond kicked truly and took the quarter time margin to only 7 points, however a scoreless 2nd term for the Monders proved to be damaging. Tim Montagna was outstanding all day for the Eagles, acting as a general in the back half, while Jono Blanch assisted the midfield unit strongly. The win puts the club 2 points ahead of second-last placed Oakleigh.

Reserves: 9-9-63 def. by Ormond: 10-12-72

After going down by 158 points to the Monders earlier in the season, the Reserves knew that meeting Ormond would require more consistent footy. The boys started well, kicking the first two goals of the game, however Ormond responded, taking out a slender 3-point lead into the first change. 50th gamer and great clubman, Josh James was solid all day, while Tim James and Adrian Bonato contributed up forward, booting 4 goals together. After a strong and stirring fourth quarter effort, Ormond were just too strong in the end, snatching victory by 9 points. Congratulations also goes out to David Valsorda who notched up his 50th game.

Both Seniors and Reserves have a BYE this Saturday, giving them an opportunity to refresh ahead of another huge clash against Williamstown on the picturesque John Bray Oval.

U/19’s: 8-6-54 def. Hampton Rovers: 3-5-23

The Baby Eagles faced Hampton Rovers in what was expected to be a competitive clash considering recent form and ladder position. Marcellin started strongly, entering the first change with a 32 point lead, however a determined Hampton outfit narrowed down the half time score to 18 points. It was all Marcellin from there on, continuing to play great footy, while also limiting the Rovers scoring. Daniel Epifano was excellent all day, while Zac Tolley and Matty De Luca continued their great form, both having superb games. Marcellin took out a 31 point win.

Thirds: 7-7-49 def. by Therry Penola: 15-14-104

After starting very competitively, taking a 6-point lead into the first change, then third placed Therry Penola ran out 55-point winners. Playing in his 100th match for the Club, Sam Chandler continued his stellar form with another best on ground performance, while Erik Fekonja and Michael Mascitti were strong all day. A win would have seen Marcellin cement second place, however they know sit comfortably in third position on 40 points.

Thank-you to all of the helpers on game day, your help it always appreciated!
